Dominican Republic SICAThe country will be able to forge stronger economic ties

In what’s considered a victory for the country's diplomacy, Dominican Republic was accepted as a Member State of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the regional bloc announced Thursday in Costa Rica’s capital.

The measure is contained in the Declaration of San José released in a press conference today when Central American leaders gathered for the 41st Meeting of the SICA Heads of State and Government, held here from June 25 to 27.

We welcome the addition of the Dominican Republic for membership of the Central American Integration System, according to the resolution adopted on this 41st Regular Meeting of the Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System, the Declaration says.

As a full member of the Central American Integration System, Dominican Republic will be able to forge stronger economic, political and social ties with Central America, a region of more than 50 million people.
